‘Ministering in Changing Circumstances’ – Sermon clip from David Karoon (4 Min):

Transcript:

“I hope the in the Stornoway RP Church you and I are not conservatives and traditionalists; those who worship the past because it is the past. Neither is we liberals; because be worship the present… we seek to be biblical Christians, we seek to be a biblical church. One that recognises that we are placed in such a time as this,  that we are placed in this place in order to speak with the voice of the prophets to a generation that is degenerate and on its way to a eternal death.

And it seems to me that the conservative church refuses to be sensitive to the changes in the culture in which we are placed.

Sometimes we refuse to be sensitive because we are ignorant of the changes… but sometimes it isn’t just ignorance. It is sheer arrogance, we think that we know everything; we assume that we have a monopoly of truth, and we are determined to pursue the path of the past.

The Apostle was not like that. He knew the changing circumstances, he was aware of the changing context and wherever God placed him, whatever restrictions the sovereign had placed upon him, the apostle Paul sought to continue his ministery within that changing context.

This is the problem with us as human beings; we are people of extremes, we are either completely insensitive to the changes or we are hyper-sensitive to the changes. The traditionalists & conservatives in the church are completely insensitive to changes that are taking place in our society. The liberals on the other hand are hyper-sensitive to the changes, and so they want the gospel to change, they want the church to change; they want everything to change in order to fit in with the prevailing culture of that day.

We are neither conservatives worshiping the past neither are we liberals worshiping that the feet of the present. We are biblical Christians worshiping at the feet of the triune God; father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

I’ve put a handful of Psalms on Youtube; if you like to see the congregation and have to words on screen check them out.

Senior Camp 2011 Talks

24 Jul

This year we had the blessing of having Rev Andrew Kerr  speak at Senior Camp. Throughout the week he traveled through the book of Ruth, exploring this well known piece of prose and bringing out various challenges. There was an overriding theme of redemption throughout the talks, as well as the reminder that God is ultimately Sovereign and in control of our life. – A.E. Carson

If you missed out on theses talks or just want to hear them for a second time, the recordings are found below (Keep an ear out for the Psalm at the end of each recording):

New Minister and Preaching Station for RPCS

12 Jul

Two quick updates from Scotland:

Firstly; Rev. David Karoon, previously a minister in the Free Church of Scotland having resigned his post on the Isle of Arran  was accepted as a minister into The RPCS on July 2nd.

Secondly; The RPCS has taken the decision to commence holding services of public worship with a view to establishing a congregation in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. This decision is taken in response to a request made by a number of Christians from the town and is motivated by a wholly positive desire to proclaim the Gospel. Services commenced on July 10th.

Culregrein Mission House where services are currently being held.

Airdrie Go-Team, Sunday Psalm.

27 Apr

I’m sure one of the two Another King writers who were officially on the Airdrie Go-Team will post a full report  in the rear future. In the meantime and to whet your appetite, here is a recording of Psalm 98B from morning worship of the Go-Team Sunday.

The singing on Sunday was fantastic, due in no small part to a what was probably the largest attendance at a regular worship service in Airdrie for 50 years.

Lisburn’s Bible Conference Week, 25th-29th October

25 Oct

This week sees the launch of Lisburn’s bi-annual Bible Conference Week. Our speaker this year is Professor Edward Donnelly who has chosen ‘the Portraits of Jesus’ as his topic. The meetings will be held each evening at 8pm at our Church building on the Nettlehill Road. It would be fantastic if you could come along to at least one of these meetings as they promise to be very challenging and useful for our Christian lives. Please see our invitation below and have a glance over the topics and evenings and we hope to see you there. If you want another reason why you should attend, supper will also be provided after each evening!
